✨ Safety: What’s Your Role?

To support safety, you should:

  • Know your agency’s safety policies and procedures

  • Learn each person’s safety needs

  • Understand needs related to mobility, vision, and hearing (and how they affect safety)

✨ Good Nutrition: What’s Your Role?

Here are practical ways DSPs support healthy eating:

1) Know each person’s history

  • Who is on a special diet and why

  • Who has allergies and what they are

  • Where that information is located

    DSP

2) Learn portion control

  • A serving of meat is about the size of a deck of cards

  • Smaller bowls and plates can help limit portion size

    DSP

3) Monitor respectfully

  • Monitor what and how much someone eats in a respectful, helpful way

  • Encourage proper portions by measuring food before it is placed on the plate

    DSP

4) Prepare foods in healthier ways

  • Bake or grill when possible and avoid frying

  • Use dairy items with lower fat content

  • Use nutrition charts when planning meals

    DSP

5) Encourage movement
Being active supports well-being. Even walking 30 minutes several times a week can help physically and psychologically.
