✨ Why This Matters

Personal hygiene affects how others view a person. Clean clothing, clean hair, and regular bathing support confidence, relationships, and community participation. Good hygiene, especially dental care, is also important for health reasons.

✨ What Your Support Can Look Like

Some people may need reminders to:

  • Bathe, shampoo hair, shave, brush teeth, or use the toilet

Others may need hands-on help with tasks like:

  • Changing a disposable brief

  • Putting on deodorant

If someone does not understand why hygiene matters or dislikes hygiene routines, your role is to find creative ways to encourage participation when needed.

✅ The Standard

You should expect the personal hygiene of people you support to be kept at a level equal to your own or your family’s. It is no less important.

  • Helping a person find a dentist who accepts reduced rates

  • Reporting a new concern like wetting themselves so the team can identify the cause, while also using short-term fixes like keeping extra clothes available

  • Helping someone choose weather-appropriate clothing for work and daily activities
